Osteomancy

The practice of osteomancy is a form of divination where bones are cast to discover truths and learn of the future.

This show is a continuation of Jennifer Illanes' (BDes '11, Photography) ongoing project Pilgrimage of Stories and Stones, which is based on her research trip to Scotland, where she focused on medieval history, magic and ancient Celtic culture. 

For this collection, she focused on using bones and eggshells as her primary mediums. Both are remnants of life, equally strong and fragile. The symbols and objects harken to medieval imagery and magical symbolism, often blended together. She aimed to explore these mediums in-depth and create work with a story or truth behind it.
