Incoming exchange students

Looking to study at AUArts for a semester? We welcome applicants from across North America and from international schools around the world.

If you're a student from one of our partner AICAD schools, please submit your application on the AICAD Slideroom portal.

If you are an international student who attends a school that has an exchange agreement with AUArts please send the following in one PDF to advising@auarts.ca.

  • Completed Incoming Exchange and Study Abroad Application

  • Cover Page that includes YOUR NAME, INSTITUTION, MAJOR, Semester and year of Exchange

  • Personal Statement / Letter of Intent (500 words max.) that describes your research interest, why study at AUArts, how the Exchange program will help you fulfill your academic goals

  • A scanned copy of the photograph page of your valid passport. Your passport needs to be valid for six months following your return from the Exchange & Study Abroad program.

  • Resume / Curriculum Vitae (The College Art Association has an excellent guideline for creating your CV) 

  • 10 images of work with dimensions and titles (use still images for sound or video pieces and links to web file)

  • Provide research of the AUArts course titles that you would propose to enroll in provided there is availability. Please note: While on exchange students are generally expected to enroll in 15 credits of coursework comprised of two 300-level major studio courses, and three elective studio courses (or a liberal studies elective). It is your responsibility to verify with your home institution that the courses you enroll in at AUArts will fulfill your degree requirements.

Your Academic Advisor, Exchange & Study Abroad Coordinator, or Study Abroad Advisor should also send us a letter of introduction. Please note, you must apply to and receive approval from a Canadian Consulate for necessary visas and immigration documentation.

When admitted to AUArts' Exchange & Study Abroad program, you will be responsible for all travel, accommodation, visas, personal expenses, AUArts program supplementary fees (studio fees, internet usage, recreation, transit pass), and you must have proof of travel and health insurance coverage for the duration of your study here.

Application Deadlines:

  • March 15 is the application deadline to Study at AUArts for Fall Semester (September-December)
  • October 1 is the application deadline to study at AUArts for Winter/Spring Semester (January-May)
