“I blur the division between Art / Craft through producing conceptual, technically proficient works that incorporate both traditional and unconventional materials. Inspiration and resources come from various forms of art, craft, design and the everyday, resulting in my interdisciplinary approach to making things. Despite working with varied materials, I continually work with fibre, incorporating a variety of traditional techniques both on and off the loom.”

Jolie Bird’s research explores specific contrasts and tensions, both visual and conceptual that arise through a range of textile techniques and processes. Her practice incorporates simple, yet laborious, techniques that focus on making by displaying the absurd length of time it takes to transform ordinary functional objects into non-functional precious works of art. In April 2013, Bird received a Master of Fine Art in Craft from NSCAD University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her work has been shown throughout Canada and the United States including In The

Making: a group exhibition of Alberta College of Art + Design alumni, investigates conceptual intersections between contemporary craft and emerging digital media. Fiberart International 2013: An exhibition of contemporary fibre art presented by the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, as well as, Fibreworks 2012:

A biennial juried exhibition of Canadian fibre art, Cambridge Galleries, Ontario. Bird was born in Kitchener, Ontario and currently resides in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
