Nick Johnson

While living in Edinburgh Scotland, he spent his days exploring castles, graveyards, and natural wonders, and completing a Masters in Comics and Graphic Novels at the University of Dundee.

He has worked in animation as an art director and storyboard artist since 2015, and most recently as the writer, director and producer of the animated feature film Sunburnt Unicorn which made its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France in 2024. He also teaches Character Design and Illustration as an Assistant Professor at theAlberta University of the Arts.

Taking both a literary and artistic approach to creating stories, Nick’s work features expressive characters, resonant themes, and emotional storytelling, exploring ideas of philosophy, psychology and design through every project. He finds inspiration in Can Lit, horror fiction, X-Men, Proust, and the ghosts of Utopia.
