100 Drawings in a Week

Get really creative and push yourself to complete 100 drawing in a week. You’ll improve your drawing skills through your sustained drawing practice as your instructor helps you move from concentrating on mostly formal issues to more conceptual ones. Be introduced to past and current artists who have strong drawing practices and participate in individual and group critiques which will aide in your artist growth. All levels welcome. Please see your recommended supply list online. Be sure to come prepared for the first day.

Abstract Painting Week

Pre-requisite:  Acrylic Painting I or previous painting experience .

Take your abstract painting practice to the next level and spend an uninterrupted week in the studio! Work alongside other abstract painters and build community under the guidance of your instructor as you produce new work or explore a new technique or approach to what you’ve been doing. You will participate in individual and group critiques throughout the week. Acrylic paint will be the medium used as it is flexible and dries quickly. Please see your course supply list online. Be sure to come prepared for the first class.

Animation Studio

Discover the fun and wacky world of non-digital animation using more experimental techniques of cutouts, stop motion, and pixilation. You will produce your own short animation project individually or in a small group. Watch short video clips for inspiration and to get your creative juices flowing. NOTE: this is not a computer animation course; you will use digital technologies to record and edit your animation. Please see your course supply list online. Be sure to come prepared for the first class.

Botanical Drawing

Drawing botanical and fruit forms from life takes careful perception and good hand eye coordination. You will develop keen observational drawing skills through a number of studio-based assignments, and be introduced to  colour theory and how to successfully use colour pencils to get rich, vibrant colours. Participate in class discussions and critiques to help your progression. Please see your course supply list online. Be sure to come prepared for the first class.

Learn the traditional process of hand drawing your own comics. You will be encouraged to develop your own identifiable style, including environments and layouts while you are learning to draw the human figure. Give your characters expression and action and put them into a narrative to tell a story, as you work with a variety of media including pen and ink, marker, pencil and water-based colour.

Drawing II Studio

PREREQUISITE previous drawing experience

Continue your drawing exploration with different drawing media as you work through a sequence of studio-based activities. Develop your understanding and use of the art elements and principles as you focus on improving your compositions, drawing skills, and creating narrative in your work. You will have critique sessions throughout the course giving you the opportunity to practice speaking about your work and discussing it with others.

Focus on improving your drawing skills while you experiment with different types of drawing media including: graphite, charcoal, and conte crayons. You will continue to improve your understanding of the art elements and principles as you focus on composition and a variety of drawing techniques. Think about what you are communicating with your drawings and develop your ability to speak about your work during critique session each class.

Drawing Techniques of the Masters

The Renaissance Masters kept incredible sketchbooks full of drawings that they worked on daily. Learn to accurately draw what your eye is really seeing, through a step-by-step approach to drawing that has been used for centuries. You will draw from master prints as you work with a number of different drawing media and hone your skills.

Faces + Figures

Learn how to draw the human face and figure from direct observation. You will study proper proportions of both the face and the figure as you test out a variety of drawing techniques. Start each class with quick gesture drawings to get warmed up and then move into longer, sustained poses for a complete, detailed rendering. Participate in daily critique sessions at the end of each class.
