Artstream

Applications open October 1 for Fall 2024

Want to pursue your creative dreams but don’t quite have the marks yet? Artstream can help you get there

Artstream is a university transition program for adults providing a bridge to art, craft and design applicants with accepted portfolios who do not meet AUArts’ academic or English proficiency requirements.

Delivered by AUArts School of Continuing Education & Professional Development

Artstream Program provides concurrent delivery of:

  • Bridging of specific academic skills to a post-secondary level;
  • Specialized courses to complement the objectives of AUArts Liberal Studies courses; and
  • Reduced course load of AUArts studio and Liberal Studies classes.

Artstream graduates receive a certificate from AUArts, conferred at convocation, and become eligible for AUArts’ First Year Studies.

Please Note: Completion of Artstream does not provide them with a high school diploma. Instead, AUArts will waive diploma requirements and high school course minimum grades.

For students who do not meet the English proficiency requirement for acceptance into AUArts. Artstream completion will satisfy the English proficiency required for AUArts admission.

Admission Requirements

Artstream admission is based on assessment of the following:

  • Academic transcripts
  • Statement of Intent
  • Artistic Portfolio
  • Academic assessment (necessary for holders of GED, High School Certificate, or did not graduate High School)

How do I apply?

Application open October 1 and close June 1 or until no more seats are available.

Your application to the Artstream program involves the following steps:

  1. Submit your application form and pay your application fee via the Apply Alberta Post-Secondary Application System (APAS).
    • If you currently attend high school within Alberta, AUArts automatically receives both in-progress and official transcripts from applicants from Alberta schools through the application process at APAS.
    • If you currently attend high school outside of Alberta, you’ll need to attach your in-progress transcripts to your portfolio (Step 2) in SlideRoom for evaluation. All documents must be in English. If you need to have your transcripts translated, they will also need to be notarized before you can submit them.
  2. Submit your portfolio of original artworks along with your Statement of Intent through AUArts Slideroom.
    • Once you have submitted your online application and we have had an opportunity to process it, you will be emailed a link to Slideroom to submit your portfolio and statement of intent.
      • If upon review of your academic transcripts and your portfolio your application shows that you are an appropriate candidate for the program, your application to the Artstream program will be approved
      • Artstream applicants may be required to complete an academic assessment
      • Admission to the program is offered on a first qualified, first accepted basis, so apply early.

  • Designs for websites and other forms of digital media
  • Documentation of performance or installation art
  • Sample of creative or critical writing
