What is inside my heart?

This piece was a prompt from my Art 30 class to create a sculpture about what is inside my heart. I took this somewhat literally with the semi-realistic approach of the outer shell of my heart while also incorporating special aspects that I hold within my heart. Bright colours and animated movies have always been a huge part of inspiration for my art pieces. I included these elements within my piece through the patterns and shapes within my heart, the focal point being the cartoonish heart within the confines of the realistic one. This smaller heart represents a part of me that hides behind my other interests and hobbies represented by the cocoon-like divots, swirls and scale patterns on the outer shell of my heart. The scale patterns have a special place in my heart because I have always been drawn to ocean creatures and whimsical adaptations of them such as merfolk. The rainbow colours represent my place within the LGBTQ+ community and how being part of it has brought me to be more confident about my sexuality and accept the impacts it has within my life.
