Moon River

In Islam, children are considered as blessings from God. The Moon is a strong Islamic symbol and in piece one, I use it to represent God taking back a dead child from Earth via a Moon river. The child is slender and gaunt, representing the starving children (blessings) forgotten by the Earth (society) and left to die. The piece showcases several Moons and their respective rivers symbolizing the frequency of this issue. The child is an angel, an embodiment of innocence; the sun's light not reaching it, blocked by the Earth, is a symbol of a lost future and potential.
