Evangelical Madness

I made this piece shortly after a recent trip around Europe. I visited many historical sites, including the St. Peter’s Basilica and Duomo di Milano. The baroque and gothic styles of the cathedrals captivated me, hence the altar like structure at the forefront of the piece. Additionally, I discovered the works of Alphonse Mucha and fell in love with the arcs of art nouveau, which I integrated in the bottom half. Coming from a Catholic background, I am no stranger to the biblical imagery of angels, and their many eyes- eyes of which appear in the air, in the walls, in the floors, and above the scene. God is always watching- as they say. I wished to combine my inspirations together with a colourful and surrealist twist to illustrate an unsettling, confusing, all seeing mass of absurdity.
