House Modrotisk
This is another piece in the “modrotisk” series. It is about the house in the Czech Republic where my grandmother and my mother grew up. I spent several summers in this house. It remained mostly unchanged since my grandmother’s birth and brought back many memories about her childhood. The house still remains in our family but recently needed to be renovated. This was a very difficult and painful experience - as if changing the furniture and wall paint erased the past as well. In this piece I created a collage of many of the old objects from the house - in the background ones from my mother’s memory, and in the foreground ones from my memory. The layers in this piece signify the passage of time. The green pear suggests a new beginning.
