Untitled: Fancy Dancer
This piece depicts a Fancy Dancer. A group of us from our Art 30 class wanted to create a legacy mural for our school and created this image because it is a visual symbol of our school's commitment to reconciliation, as well as our connection to and celebration of the Indigenous people in our community. One of the artists in this group is Indigenous and she thought that depicting a woman performing a Fancy Dance would elude to ceremony and the advocacy that John G Diefenbaker did to elevate the Indigenous perspective. It is a modern take on a classic image.
