Pieced Together
Pieced together is a self portrait of myself made in my favourite mediums, pencil, coloured pencils, markers and watercolour. The squares in which each medium is used are photographs which have been thrown together to form an image of my face. Throughout my preteen and teenage years I have struggled with grasping what I look like. I would find myself staring at photos taken by myself, other people, in different angles and lighting and trying to understand why I looked so different in each one. It was something that was constantly on my mind and really affected my mood and self esteem. It is not much of a problem for me anymore but it was a very pivotal era of my life and I wanted to incorporate it in my art. The process of this drawing included me sitting in front of a mirror trying to capture all my features without any bias, which I think I did well. I enjoyed working with coloured pencils the most and playing around with which colours looked good where and how to display light and dark.
