SILVER

Artist- Run Culture in Calgary 25 Years Celebration

The NEW Gallery (TNG) and Illingworth Kerr Gallery (1KG) will be presenting the exhibition SILVER from March 9 - April 1, 2000. The exhibition will feature more than 40 artists from The NEW Gallery's 25-year visual art history.  

The NEW Gallery has been instrumental in providing numerous important Calgary artists with their first exhibition opportunity. Many of the artists involved in TNG's history have become major players in the global art community, and have moved on to use the skills and knowledge gained at TNG in their practice elsewhere. This joint exhibition at The NEW Gallery and Illingworth will celebrate the achievements of local, national, and international artists who are an integral part of Calgary's art history. John Chalke, Chris Cran, Mark Dicey, Alan Dunning, Christian Eckart, Wayne Giles, Amy Gogarty, John Hall, Joice Hall, Arthur Nishimura, Evan Penny, Helen Sebelius, Wendy Toogood, Laura Vickerson, ManWoman and John Will are just some of the artists that will be showcased in this joint exhibition. There will also be an international component to the exhibition with works on display by: Christian Eckart and Tim Watkins, who are now working out of New York City, will be part of SILVER along with Jurgen O. Olbrich, from Kassel, Germany and Cat Schick and m. vánçi stirnemann both from Zürich, Switzerland. 

There will be a SILVER party held at The NEW Gallery March 4 @ 9 PM. Be prepared for a SILVER EXTRAVAGANZA: the gallery will be dressed in the SILVER theme; we hope you will Be too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

The joint opening for the SILVER Exhibition will be held at BOTH The Illingworth Kerr Gallery AND The NEW Gallery on TNG's official birthday March 15 beginning at TNG @ 7 PM, then opening at the 1KG @ 8 PM. There will be a bus to provide transportation between the two venues throughout the evening, and the Street of Crocodiles will be performing live on the bus and at both galleries. As well as the Crocodiles ManWoman, who is currently working out of Cran brook, BC, and Mr. Death will be in attendance at the opening. 

The SILVER exhibition is co-curated by Don Mabie and Tammy McGrath.
