Pearl to PromiseMy ceramic sculpture, “Pearl to Promise,” encapsulates the beauty that is held by the creation of life. The open oyster shells deliver nature's instinct in protecting life at its most vulnerable state. Its strong and rough structure contrasts the delicate souls that lay within. The glistening black pearl is commonly known for its rarity. However, through this precious gemstone, a life is nurtured into health. An umbilical cord connects the pearl to the baby, ensuring the precious soul proper nourishment and energy, to grow into its fullest potential in life. Creating this ceramic piece brought me a new perspective on the creation of life. Especially after having to make two of them, I was given the time to reflect on how much effort and time it takes to create something beautiful. The acts of molding and attaching clay together – as well as being mindful with all the fine details – showcase the process of commitment and endurance required to build life. Whether it is the life of a treasured soul, or the existence of new creation. |
