Body of WorkThis 4-piece ceramic set is composed of functional items: two mugs, a soap tray, and jar, made through wheel-throwing and hand-building. The central theme explores the transformation of everyday dishware into anthropomorphized figures that consciously challenge the normalcy of their spiritless employment. As essential objects designed for convenience, I imbued altered human characteristics in them to explicitly express the unseen existence of the souls that have made everything we utilize; from materials to concepts. Because of our helpless indifference to these labors, man’s creations appear as a blend between the existent and the nonexistent. My ceramics set reflects this concept, as these tools—used daily and often taken for granted—embody the convenience and subservience we overlook. They highlight the indifference we have toward the objects that serve us so greatly, challenging us to reconsider their value and humanity. |
