Sweet NostalgiaFor the selected piece, I explored the theme of nostalgia, especially in my growth as an artist, guiding with my process with the inquiry question: How can I express the feeling of nostalgia through a mixed media painting? This question inspired me to investigate how my past artwork in my childhood led me to create more and move forward in pursuing my artistic passion, and it holds a great personal significance because the process of creating and the nostalgia that it holds truly shaped who I am as a person. I chose to work with paint, while also incorporating different medias, such as oil, pastel and collage, because I think the combination of all the medias and how they flow together, demonstrates a lot of the aspects in my own personality. A lot of the bright colours that I used, help me communicate the bright and sugary feeling of nostalgia. My artistic process involved collecting authentic artwork from my childhood and drawing inspiration from those pieces. My biggest struggle in creating this artwork was perfecting the portrait of myself, as the proportions and shading was rather difficult to achieve. Not only that, but dealing with colour theory and shading with paint proved itself to be quite difficult, but still, I persevered. I am very proud of how the piece reflects my exploration of the theme nostalgia through my past art and my evolving signature style. |
