Briana's Mosaic

I have always admired my friend Briana (Bri) for her strong sense of self and the rich stories that have shaped who she is. These stories are scattered throughout her room, visible in everything from the dried flowers her mother gave her to the posters of bands she once loved but has since outgrown. Inspired by a candid photograph I took of her lying on her bed, surrounded by reflections of herself, I sought to capture the feelings of comfort, nostalgia, and wonder within her space—a place where memories and evolving identities coexist. In this piece, I have painted Bri in watercolour, focusing on the lighting to recreate the intimate atmosphere of her room. In contrast, I used bold, patterned collage elements for the posters and objects around her, each symbolizing an extension of her identity.
