Collection of information

AUArts may collect information about you through various sources.

Collection occurs when AUArts gathers, acquires, receives, or obtains personal information. For example, it includes activities where individuals respond through interviews, questionnaires, surveys, applications, or by completing forms in order to provide information. FOIP does not permit collection of personal information "just in case" it may have value in the future, the program may be expanded in the future or someone in the public body may ask for the information at some point in the future.

Under FOIP, the University must collect personal information directly from the individual the information is about except under specific circumstances. FOIP also states that whenever the University collects personal information from the individual, it must tell the individual what authority it has to collect the information, how the information will be used, and finally, who can be contacted if there are any questions about the collection or use of the information.

Example collection notice: FOIP Notification: The personal information you provide on this form is collected under the authority of Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Section 33(c). This information will be used to [state specific uses for which the information is collected]. If you have any questions about the collection or use of this information, contact the ATIA and POPA Coordinator at access.privacy@auarts.ca

AUArts may use personal information only for the purpose which it was originally collected.
