Dené Language Revitalization
Aboriginal languages are a fundamental and valued element of Canadian culture and society, and there is an urgency to preserve them.
The Dené Language Revitalization program was a free 10-week course taught by Tsuut’ina Language Commissioner and Elder Bruce Starlight.
The Indigenous language Dené is quickly disappearing across the region. In 2018, the AUArts’ Lodgepole Center hosted a 10-week pilot program teaching the Dené language in response to this and the Calls to Action developed by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
The program was led by the Tsuut’ina Language Commissioner and Elder Bruce Starlight. It was funded by the Government of Canada and was offered to all individuals interested in learning about the Dené Indigenous language.
