Lost in TranslationThe phrase ‘lost in translation’, refers to all the context and details from an original meaning that is ‘lost’ when one language is converted to another. In this drawing, as I stare into a puddle, I see a girl who is both familiar and foreign. It is inevitable for us to change as we grow up, but sometimes I miss the pieces of her that I couldn’t hold onto. Yet, I begin to see her in quick moments of my life. I see her happiness in glimpses of everything I love, her anger in the things I resent. Every time I am hard on myself, I can’t help but think back to the girl who just needed me to love her. But every time I win, I hope that I’m someone who that girl would want to be. I hope that one day I will see her joy in the things I now resist, and hear her bossy voice when mine is too soft to speak. |
