2023 AUArts Summer Residency Program

Call for Applications

The Alberta University of the Arts is one of the best equipped, purpose-built universities of art, craft, and design in North America, offering facilities for ceramics, glass, drawing, fibre, jewellery, painting, print media, photography, media arts, sculpture, and visual communication. The AUArts Summer Residency Program is inclusive of diverse practices that may be defined as fine art, design, craft and text-based, but it is not limited to just these practice areas. We welcome your creativity!

As a participant of the summer residency, you will have access to home studio space and limited access to production studios and technical support. While you are developing your independent studio work and research you will have access to the Summer Residency Program Coordinator, studio technicians, and you will have opportunities to participate in studio visits and activities throughout the residency from June 19th to August 20th.

The program has spaces for up to 25 residents who have demonstrable technical skill in their studio areas. You are encouraged to apply if you are:

  • A community artist or AUArts Alumni 
  • An AUArts student graduating in 2023
  • An AUArts undergraduate student who has earned 90 or more credits

Scholarships

  • Five scholarships each worth $500 are available to applicants.
  • Scholarships will be awarded on the merit of the applicant's research project proposal and images of recent work.
  • Scholarship awards are applied directly to the Residency fee.

Residency Information and Conditions

  • Building hours are 7am-11pm unless otherwise posted.
  • Facility and studio maintenance projects scheduled may impact availability of some areas during the residency period.
  • Residents will be provided with home studio space (approx. 3m x 3.5m) that includes a worktable, chair, lockable cabinet.
  • Residents are expected to provide their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in order to work in studio facilities. This may include but is not limited to safety glasses, closed toe shoes, and respirators.
  • Additional charges may apply for studio material share fees. These will be assessed by the area technician and are payable at the Bookstore.
  • AUArts Bookstore and Luke Lindoe Library are open during regular business hours during the summer.
