Illingworth Kerr GalleryWritten on the Land
Mark Ruwedel
An exhibition of black and white photographs that looks at the impact of technologies and culture on the land, from the subtle manifestations of human activity dating back to the prehistoric period, to the violent intrusion that was the 'conquering' of the west (in particular the building of the railway and the imposition of new site names by immigrants and explorers), to those devastations wrought during recent history through military manoeuvres, weapons testing, resource extraction and other manifestations of 'progress.'
Mark Ruwedel was formerly a resident of Montreal and Vancouver and currently resides in Long Beach, where he is Assistant Professor of Photography at California State University, Long Beach.
Curated by Karen Love and circulated by Presentation House Gallery.
