Celebrate the talent and creativity of our Graduating Class of 2007
More than 200 talented students are graduating from the Alberta College of Art + Design this spring. They join a distinguished group of ACAD alumni who contribute to the creative and cultural landscape both close to home and all over the world. Each member of the ACAD graduating class of 2007 deserves recognition.
Students such as Fibre Arts grad Suzen Green whose whimsical works (including a knitted balaclava for a pigeon) are part of an exhibition of international artists opening at the Confederation Arts Centre in Charlottetown in June. Another grad, Kristoper Karlin, enrolled at ACAD with encouragement from his Grandmother and his mother (who studies Jewellery at the College). Karlin creates photographs that play with scale and blur the line between fantasy and reality. Grad Janice Wu was studying at the Nova Scotia College of Art + design when an Albertan wrangled her to Calgary. Her textile based work, such as bowls made of cotton thread, explore and exploit her interest in making things by hand.
Every one of the grads has a story to tell and the President of ACAD, Lance Carlson, wishes each of them well. "ACAD alumni bear a special responsibility as creative practioners" he says. "I encourage our graduating class to articulate and apply the process of creative problem solving to our world. This ability and the possibilities it brings maybe what's desired to more than any other trait in today's society."
