Join Alberta Craft and the artists in attendance for the joint reception of the Feature group exhibition Innovative Threads: Contemporary Weaving and Mackenzie Kelly-Frère’s solo Discovery exhibition Drawn.

Innovative Threads: Contemporary Weaving

In this national exhibition, artists investigate a variety of approaches to weaving. Works range from traditional to conceptual, where material and methods are revered and subverted. See how this group of artists skillfully employ and challenge our notions of weaving in physical and virtual spaces.

Drawn

Drawn, a Discovery Gallery exhibition of handweaving by Mackenzie Kelly-Frère (Associate Professor, Fibre and BFA ‘98, Textiles), an artist, educator and academic living in Mohkinstsis (Calgary). The exhibition examines cloth as a contextual object, enmeshing ways of thinking and being in the natural world. Kelly-Frère draws on his lived experience of the Canadian Prairie and a recent artist residency in Blondüós, Iceland, to create cloth that reflects situated materialities and our connections to place.
