Course description
An introduction to the fundamentals of Unreal Engine , one of the most widely used platforms for creating interactive 3D content.
From navigating the interface to understanding scene creation, geometry, lighting and materials, you will build a strong foundation for designing and developing your own 3D projects.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, you will have the skills to create your own basic 3D scenes and understand the best practices of working with Unreal Engine to make engaging interactive experiences.
- Identify the fundamentals of 3D space
- Create and manage levels within the Engine
- Design simple shapes using static mesh objects
- Recognize and apply materials and textures to objects
- Navigate the Unreal Engine editor and interface
- Illuminate scenes with ray-traced shadows for realistic lighting
- Implement basic interactive functionality using Blueprints
Course topics
Topic 1 | Introduction to Unreal Engine Discover Unreal Engine's capabilities, project applications, setup and tools for seamless creation. | Topic 2 | Creating a 3D scene Understand basic concepts of 3D space and coordinates, how to create a new level, add objects and apply basic transformations. |
Topic 3 | Simple 3D geometry Explore geometry editing tools and use them to create simple shapes, manage object groups and work with BSP (Binary Space Partitioning). | Topic 4 | Lighting a scene Learn about light types, settings, placement, adjustments and performance considerations. |
Topic 5 | Working with materials Understand materials, textures, shaders and special effects; create and apply materials using the Material Editor. | Topic 6 | Advanced geometry Create complex geometry by combining BSP brushes, understand the practical applications of subtractive brushes and how to use them to carve out shapes. |
Topic 7 | Basic blueprint interactions Learn blueprint basics, manipulate game objects, understand different types of colliders and their uses. |
