Reserve a spotDiscover the care and collaboration behind conserving Katie Ohe’s beloved sculpture through film, conversation, and a guided tour.
The City of Calgary invites the public to a special event on November 25, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Devonian Gardens, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how art is cared for and preserved. Guests will gain insight into the conservation and relocation of Katie Ohe’s Day and Night (Dip ’60, Sculpture; Honorary MFA) —from its original outdoor setting to its new home within the indoor gardens.
The evening will begin with a special screening of a short film documenting the journey of Day and Night, created by Alexander Boyd, a member of the restoration team. The film provides a rarely seen perspective on the intricate process of conserving public art. Following the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the topic further during a Q&A session with The City’s Public Art Conservator, Sophia Zweifel, and Alexander Boyd.
The event will conclude with a guided tour of the exhibition Fragment to Form, which highlights additional works by Katie Ohe and offers a chance to experience Day and Night in its new setting.
This unique event provides an opportunity to witness the art of conservation up close and meet the individuals who brought the restoration of Day and Night to life.
