Soon All Your Memories Will Be With Me

Lisa Lipton

Lisa Lipton’s solo exhibition – Soon All Your Memories Will Be With Me is a science fiction narrative that explores the nature of human experience in relation to futurist technologies, innovation, virtual communication and space travel. Written as a homage to Harlan Ellison’s Canadian-produced science fiction series – The Starlost, from 1973, the story follows three characters as they journey through deep space in an attempt to save remaining descendants of human civilization aboard The Ship Ultimo. Drawing from Soviet Science Fiction work of the 1970s, the plot offers a subverted social critique of present day political policy, social governance and retaliation. The trajectory of human and alien encounters reveals moments of anxiety, rebellion, hope and fear that unfold within each episode.  The content explores theatrics of science fiction, including prophetic warnings, utopian aspirations, strange voyages, while replacing the dominant male lead in the sci-fi genre with a female heroine.

Maritime-born artist Lisa Lipton is a multidisciplinary visual artist, musician and director who received her B.F.A. from NSCAD University and M.F.A. from the University of Windsor.  Her projects explore the potential for crossing genres of film, mixed media installation, performance, theatre and music.  Her visions are reflective of an interest in directorial and curatorial practices, collaboration and social interaction, as well as working within non-traditional contexts in order to explore the boundaries of performance and filmic production.  She recently released her multi-disciplinary project and first feature film – THE IMPOSSIBLE BLUE ROSE, at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge, AB, and in association with MS:T Performative Arts Festival.

She has exhibited her work on both a national and international level, and recently served as the Shortlist representative for the Maritime Provinces within the Sobey Art Awards (2015), as well as Longlisted in 2017, 2016, 2013 & 2012.
