After Breaking, Building Up
How can a fibre tree, a glass cage, a ceramic caterpillar, or a self-portrait change the way we view the world?
18 Calgary emerging artists are using diverse art mediums to tackle urgent questions in a new show at the Christine Klassen Gallery.
After Breaking, Building Up investigates our relationships with the world around us; with other people, animals, nature, and “things”. The exhibit invites viewers to consider what our relationships say about us, and how they impact the future of our planet.
These eighteen emerging artist will engage you, the viewer, by bringing you into their world, and challenging you to connect the rampant consumerism of the fashion industry, the cruelty against animals, alienation and othering in our communities with your own relationship decisions. This group of new talent represents the disciplines of sculpture, glass, ceramics, painting, drawing, graphic design, fibre, and jewellery and are in their final year at the Alberta University of the Arts.
The exhibit will be open to the public from November 21-23, 2024 at the Christine Klassen Gallery, 200 – 321 50 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB, opening hours from 10 am to 5 pm. A reception will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1 to 4 pm. Please join us to meet the artists and enjoy some refreshments.
