Ingniq means "fire"

Alberta Rose W./Ingniq (BFA ’16, Painting) is a Mohkinstsis (Calgary) based artist. With mixed settler/Inuvialuit heritage, Ingniq creates work that reflects aspects of her cultural identity and broader social issues related to Indigenous people. In this video, she talks about meeting like-minded and passionate people, having an impact on the community and helping other Indigenous artists get their work shown.

Ingniq (Eng-nikh) is the Inuvialuit name given to Alberta Rose W. as a child. Her mother once told her it means “fire.”
