Popcorn Clouds is a solo exhibition by Calgary-based multidisciplinary artist Winner Brave (BDes '24, Photography), featuring new portraiture work exploring weight, transformation, and the interior life that lives just beneath performance.

A popcorn cloud is what meteorologists call those scattered, puffy cumulus that dot a summer sky. They look soft. Aesthetic. Harmless. But they are densely packed with water, weight, and a quiet instability that builds into something new. This body of work is about that kind of weight, and the surprise of ground beneath your feet after a long season of floating.

A year and a half in the making, the exhibition is presented in two registers: a yellow series of suspended, liminal portraiture, and a red grounded series titled Before I Let Go. Together they trace a real-time arc of self-recognition, transformation, and the artist's own emergence into calling herself, out loud, an artist.
