Contemporary Poster Exhibition: “The Graphic Characters of Ikko Tanaka”
Ikko Tanaka
Excerpt from The Consulate-General of Japan:
Inspired by the fundamentals of traditional Japanese aesthetics, Ikko Tanaka has been creating his contemporary images by boldly contrasting the old and new and by re-structuring images of the past and present. Tanaka displays his global concerns for humanity through the theme CHARACTERS, both human and written. The essence of human nature has been captured by Tanaka in posters of theatrical characters and performances, as well as in the poster series, Man and Writing and other typographical works, which were the outcome of his worldwide research trips spanning twelve years.
Co-organized by The Japan Design Committee, Tokyo, and The Japan Foundation, Toronto, The Illingworth Kerr Gallery and The Consulate-General of Japan, presents an exhibition of poster works by the internationally renowned Japanese graphic designer, Ikko Tanaka.
