2nd Canadian Biennale, Prints and Drawings
Various Artists
The Edmonton Art Gallery and The Print and Drawing Council of Canada have collaborated in producing, The 2nd Canadian Biennale of Prints and Drawings, to be officially opened at The Edmonton Art Gallery on Friday, September 5 at 8:30 p.m.
The exhibition was organized by the Council (located at the University of Alberta, Edmonton) and after its showing at the Gallery it will be circulated across Canada by our Extension Department. The 2nd Canadian Biennale of Prints and Drawings is a competition open to all artists who are Canadian citizens or residents in Canada. The jurors were Eve Baxter, Director, Prints and Works on Paper, Gallery Moos, Toronto; Jules Heller, Dean, College of Fine Arts, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona; and Ed Porter, Associate Professor of Art and Printmaking, Nova Scotia.
This year, the exhibition will include, in addition to the open juried section, a special invitational section of approximately 20 works by such internationally recognized graphic artists as Alex Katz and David Hockney. It is hoped that this expanded format will provide an opportunity to view the finest in contemporary Canadian graphic art within a "global" context and serve to encourage communication between graphic artists around the world
To compliment this exhibition, Eve Baxter will conduct a slide discussion on the History of Printmaking in Canada. As one of the exhibition's jurors, she will be available to answer questions after her talk.
This exhibition was generously funded by Alberta Culture and the National Museums of Canada.
