AUArts Launches Strategic Planning Process to Shape Its Next Chapter

As Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) celebrates its centennial year, the University is launching an inclusive and collaborative strategic planning process to develop its next institutional strategy.

Building on Moving Toward 2027, the new strategy will establish a shared vision and priorities for AUArts' future. Grounded in transparency, inclusion and representation, the planning process will create opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni, supporters, partners and other members of the AUArts community to contribute their perspectives and ideas.

Over the 2026–27 academic year, AUArts will engage its communities through surveys, consultations and other opportunities to listen, learn and look ahead. The process is an opportunity to build on AUArts' 100-year legacy while contributing to the University's future.

Read the letter below from President and CEO Dr. Janis Goldie to learn more about the strategic planning process and how you can participate.

Dear AUArts Community,

I am excited to share that this Fall we are launching an inclusive and collaborative planning process that will support the development of our next strategic plan. AUArts’ current strategic plan (Moving Toward 2027) is concluding, and our next plan will be developed over the course of 2026-2027 academic year.

As we celebrate our 100-year legacy and global leadership in art, craft and design education, there has never been a more meaningful time to engage, reflect, and look ahead to begin the work to shape AUArts next century of impact.

As President and CEO, I have brought together a Strategic Planning Steering Committee, co-led by Dr. Sarah Alford, Special Advisor to the President, together with members from across our constituent community, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and our Board of Governors. This group will guide the development of the overall vision, formation, and strategy of the plan to identify the roadmap for the next five to ten years recommending the final document to the General Faculties Council and Board of Governors for approval.

As a member of our university community, you each have a role to play in helping shape and build AUArts future. Over the coming months, I encourage you to participate either through the survey launched today or by attending one of the in-person and virtual sessions planned throughout October.  Once the listening and gathering phase is completed a draft of what has emerged will be shared with the community to gather more input.

I am inspired daily by the talent, passion, creativity and dedication across the University, and I have every confidence that together, we will build a future worthy of our aspirations.

To learn more about the planning phases, engagement schedule or role of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, please visit the new webpage we have created to track and report on the strategy process. You can also email us at stratplan2027@auarts.ca with questions and suggestions.

I am excited about the possibilities for the future of AUArts and look forward to hearing from our dedicated community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Janis Goldie
