Momentum and In-Betweens: A Screening of AUArts Alumni
Quickdraw & AUArts presents a collection of Animation Alumni films that trace the arc of art student to professional animator.
The impact that AUArts Animation alumni have had locally, nationally, and internationally over the last quarter century is undeniable.
In the field of animation, the University’s unique connection to the Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) has become one of its strengths. QAS, an artist-run, member-driven organization dedicated to the art of animation, has provided unique pathways for emerging talents from AUArts to turn their passions into boundary-pushing work, even in a city without large animation studios.
Through any means necessary, alumni have come to understand the term “animation” as synonymous with “a process to develop ideas,” leading to careers in film, advertising, games, installations, and more. This event’s selection of films highlights the arcs from student to professional, from curiosity to production, from individual to collaborator, and from story to screen.
The event is co-organized by QuickDraw Animation Society and the Illingworth Kerr Gallery, and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Alberta University of the Arts.
