Artist Talk: Caitlind R.C. Brown and Wayne Garrett

Call for Submissions

Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett will discuss their community-oriented art practice and introduce their new project Deep Dream Superstructure – a collaborative installation created in response to the IKG’s exhibition Faces and Places

A call for student participants will be circulated after the Artist Talk.

Deep Dream Superstructure is a collaborative artwork that embodies the architecture of collective dreaming—both literally and figuratively. The structure features a precarious tower of A-frame houses that pays homage to the DIY spirit of domestic art spaces in Calgary/Mohkinstsis. At the sculpture’s base, a double bed invites viewers to sit, lie, read, draw, daydream, or nap.

Each week, a rotating group of alumni and students will modify the installation through nap-inspired, collaborative interventions. These contributions resemble a community collage or a game of telephone—demonstrating different ways to balance personal agency with group effort. The sculpture serves as an exercise; the real art lies in the collective efforts of artists working towards the superstructure, through shared mentorship, developing an opportunistic approach, critical thinking, playful mischief, and reshaping our deepest dreams.

By the end of the project, the superstructure will stand as a monument to cycles of longing, opportunism, struggle, change, and dreaming—all reflections of our local art community.
